Question:

Why does the Pinscore model PS-10877-BR use two ribbon cables between the driver board (PS-10877) and the display board (PS-12146)? The original system used by Williams used 4 cables between the two boards.

Answer:

The original Williams Electronics design of the D-10877 and D-12146 boards for BANZAI RUN required four cables running between the two boards. BANZAI RUN did not use a ball/credit display. Based on the technology available at the time, four cables were required to carry the signal currents required to energize the displays. Because PinScore LED displays use less power, the signal lines were consolidated to two cables, saving cost and increasing reliability.
